Description
Linnels Bridge is a bridge, probably built in 1698, which incorporates an inscribed tablet from an earlier structure dating back to 1581. It is constructed from squared stone and features a segmental arch with recessed voussoirs and splayed abutments. The parapets have chamfered coping, and there are flat-coped 20th-century approach walls. In the center of the northern parapet, there is a raised tablet that has the same design on each face, although it is better preserved on the north side. This tablet is flanked by pilasters and has an entablature with beaded moulding and a round-arched pediment. The inscription in raised lettering is now largely illegible, but it reads:
"GOD PRESARVE WMFOIRA ERENGTON, BELLDETE THIS BREGE OF LYME AND STONE 1581."
