Description
Cale Cross is a conduit head built in 1783 by David Stephenson. Originally located on The Side in Newcastle, it was moved to Blagdon in 1807. The structure is made of ashlar and designed in the Roman Doric style. It is a single-storey building with three bays, featuring open round arches with archivolts and imposts at each end. The design includes a triglyph frieze, with the central part on each side projecting forward and adorned with bucrania. At the top, there is a blocking course with a central sunk panel on the north side, which is surmounted by a lion couchant, and tall urn finials on each end.
