Description
The Friends Meeting House, dated 1760 on the lintel, is a single-storey building located in East Coanwood. It is constructed from squared stone with rusticated quoins and dressings, featuring stone flags at the eaves and a slate roof. The building has four bays and a plinth. In the third bay, there are three steps leading up to a boarded door set in a rusticated surround. The windows are 12-pane fixed types in raised stone surrounds, with the ones to the left of the door having fittings for external shutters. The gables have moulded kneelers but lack coping, and there is a stone end stack to the right. A small lean-to earth closet with a stone slate roof is located to the right. The right and left returns are plain, while the rear elevation features a single 16-pane sash window in a moulded box.
Inside, the Meeting House has a stone-flagged floor, simple wooden benches, and a dais with a boarded wall behind. A flush-panelled partition with a central four-panel door flanked by top-hinged shutters divides off the bay to the right of the door. There is a simple fireplace with a chamfered surround in the room beyond.
