Description

Ashholme Farmhouse and adjacent farm buildings consist of a house dated 1751, as indicated on the door lintel, which was extended to the rear in the later 19th century. The farm buildings date from the early 19th century. The structures are built of rubble with dressings and feature a continuous slate roof.

The house is two storeys high with three slightly irregular bays. To the right of centre is a renewed door set in a chamfered surround, with a lintel that has a sunk panel containing the initials I.W. and the date, flanked by two hearts, all carved in relief. The panel is also flanked by incised initials R and W. The house has 16-pane sash windows, with the centre window on the first floor being renewed, all set in tooled stone surrounds with slightly projecting sills.

To the left, the farm building is two storeys with two irregular bays. It features a boarded door in a stone surround, an external stone stair leading to a first-floor boarded door, and two ground-floor windows along with one on the first floor. The farm building to the right is also two storeys but has three wide bays. It includes a central boarded door with alternating tooled and moulded jambs, flanked by part-slatted windows, and a pitching door directly above. There is a lower section to the right with 20th-century garage doors, which are not of interest.

At the rear, the house has two gabled wings that are rendered. The building to the left has three doorways leading to byres, all featuring stable doors and alternating tooled and margined jambs. The building to the right has a rear outshut.
