Description

The grave of Emily Davison, located approximately 100 yards north-west of the Church of St. Mary, dates from 1913 and also commemorates various family members with dates ranging from 1866 to 1918. The gravestone is made of white marble and features a moulded square base with a tall tapering block. The top is multi-moulded and bears a cross.

The inscription reads: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. EMILY WILDING DAVISON Born Oct. 11th 1872 Died June 8th 1913 'DEEDS NOT WORDS'".

Emily Davison was a notable suffragette who famously threw herself in front of the King's horse on Derby day in 1913. The grave is included for its historical significance.
