Description
Dorothy Foster's House, also known as the old Red House, is an early 18th-century brick building located on Narrowgate. It features stone raised and chamfered quoins, moulded architraves and cills, and a modillion cornice. The stone doorpiece has a pulvinated frieze and a modillion cornice above it. On the parapet, there are two stone vases. The house has two storeys and an attic, with four late-glazed sash windows. The slate roof is topped with three tall double chimneys, one of which retains its moulded stone capping. Behind the parapet, there are two gabled dormers with two-light casements. The central doorway leads to a through passage to Dorothy Foster Court and features an eight-panel door. Additionally, there is a lead rainwater pipe head with the initials 'T.F.' and stone voussoirs above the rear door.
