Description

Pant, located at Pottergate, was built in 1875 to replace an earlier structure from 1790. It is a four-sided, three-stage construction made of polished granite. The design features a plinth, a blind arch on each face, and a pyramidal cap that is topped with a lamp standard. The trough faces Narrowgate and includes two bronze medallions below the cap: on the left is St. Michael and the Dragon, and on the right is the monogram "W.D." In the center, facing Narrowgate, there is a quatrefoil with the inscription: "Erected 1873 at the cost of Will. Dickson Esq of Alnwick in place of the old pant." Additionally, there is a bronze lion head spout.
