Description

The Black Swan Public House, located at 26 Narrowgate, is an 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall and features two windows on its façade. The front is made of dressed stone, while the ground floor is rendered. It has a slate roof with a coped verge and two brick chimneys. The building includes late glazed sash windows with raised surrounds, and there is a three-light timber oriel window on the first floor to the left. On the ground floor, there is a two-light window with a stone mullion and a flush panel door that is off-centre to the left. This inn was once a staging point for local coaches, and it is notable that the poet Robert Burns stayed here.
