Description
The Stone Bridge, located 160 metres north of Blagdon Hall, is a bridge with statuary that dates back to 1860, with statues created by J.C. Lough in 1869 and 1871. The bridge is constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and features marble statues. It has three round arches with rusticated voussoirs, and a smaller arch on the south side for a garden path. The soffits of the arches are decorated with channeled rustication. There are pilasters and an impost band that supports the pilasters over the central piers, along with a moulded string below the parapet that is broken forward around the pilasters. The lower parts of the central piers include arched niches, with those on the east side displaying urns and inscriptions that read "JOHN DONKIN, MASON" and "M.W.R." (Matthew White Ridley) along with the date. The parapet has a low gabled coping and low pyramidal caps on the pilasters, which are swept out at the ends to the piers that carry life-size classical statues.
