Description

Old Farmhouse is a house dated 1697, which has been largely altered in the early 19th century. It is constructed of random rubble and rendered on the entrance front, topped with a Welsh slate roof and brick chimneys. The building has an L-plan layout, formerly T-plan, although part of the cross-wing has been demolished. It stands two storeys high with irregular fenestration.

At the angle of the L, there is a 19th-century door featuring small bottle-glass diamond panes, set in a dated, moulded, recessed surround with a segmental outer lintel. A 19th-century glazed porch is also present. To the left, there is one 12-pane sash window on the ground floor and two on the first floor, with a 17th-century coat of arms of the Grey family positioned between them.

On the right side, a projecting bay features a stepped tripartite window in a raised surround on the ground floor, along with a 2-light window above that has 8-pane sashes in a similar surround. The roofs are gabled, with thin raised coping on the long wing and splayed coping on the cross wing. There is a 19th-century corniced ridge and two end stacks, with similar windows on the other sides of the building.

Inside, the farmhouse includes 6-panelled doors and shutters, a cast-iron staircase, and a 19th-century coved ceiling in the drawing room, which is adorned with an elaborate cornice.
