Description
The structure is an artificial tunnel located 50 metres east of the Priory Church at Brinkburn. It is likely a grotto or folly, built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The tunnel is made of roughly-squared stone and has an L-plan layout. It features a short barrel-vaulted passage that is 1.8 metres high, which runs north before turning east into a longer, slightly larger tunnel, with an overall length of approximately 22 metres. The tunnel is not genuinely subterranean; it was constructed in a dug trench and has been infilled above the vault.
