Description

The Methodist Chapel, dated 1867 on the porch, is likely designed by S.S. Teulon. It is constructed from rock-faced stone with tooled-and-margined dressings, and features a blue slate roof above a purple base. This rectangular chapel includes a south-east porch, a south-west vestry, and a north-west schoolroom wing, all in a Free Gothic style. Notable architectural details include a chamfered plinth, stepped buttresses positioned between the bays and set diagonally at angles, triangular heads on all openings, and moulded corbels at the eaves. The gables are adorned with overlapped slab coping and elaborate moulded and gabled kneelers.

The south elevation consists of six bays, with a projecting porch in bay six that has a boarded door featuring scrolly ironwork within a double-chamfered surround, alongside the inscription 'WESLEYAN PROVIDENCE CHAPEL' and the date. The vestry in bay one projects and has a central stepped stack topped with a hooded lantern and a pyramidal cap. The main chapel showcases lancet windows and a steeply-pitched roof, which is capped by a row of fleur-de-lys and two louvres; the western louvre and the east gable are embellished with elaborate wrought-iron finials. The gabled returns display triplets of stepped lancets. At the rear, there is an extruded canted projection (used as a privy/store) at the angle of the chapel and wing, featuring a boarded door flanked by small windows.
