Description
No. 34 Green Batt was built in 1856 as Alnwick Court House and later served as a District Council Treasury. This two-storey building has a classical facade of five windows. It is constructed of ashlar stone with rock-faced quoins, which have chisel-drafted margins, and a plat band. The roof is slate, with coped verges and footstones, and features a simple eaves cornice. Two ashlar gable-end chimneys and a large central vent are also present. The windows are late-glazed sashes with moulded architraves on the first floor. A central doorway is topped by a bracketted pediment. A lower, two-storey, single-window extension is attached to the north-east, featuring raised dressings and crow-stepped gables. The interior retains much exposed ashlar and was formerly vaulted.
