Description
The headstone, dated 1799, is made of sandstone and is located 3 metres south-east of the chancel of the Church of St. Andrew. It features a shaped top with relief carving of blacksmith's tools above the inscription dedicated to John Hunter of Black Hedley Woodhouse. The rear of the headstone displays a verse that reflects on the life and work of a blacksmith, expressing themes of mortality and hope for the soul's journey to heaven.
