Description
Eslington Park is a country house built between 1715 and 1720, with additions made in 1796 for the Liddells, Earls of Ravensworth. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a Lakeland slate roof. It has a U-shaped plan and is designed in a classical style, standing two storeys tall.
The entrance front consists of nine bays, with a three-bay addition from 1796 on the left. The original section showcases rusticated quoins and a central Tuscan porch adorned with a triglyph frieze. It has 12-pane sash windows set in architraves; the windows in the older part have been renewed, while those in the 1796 addition are of slightly different proportions. The original section features a projecting moulded cornice and a plain parapet, while the later section has a smaller cornice and a honeycomb parapet. The garden front also has nine bays, with the outer bays slightly projecting and featuring rusticated quoins. It includes a half-glazed central door in an Ionic porch with a pulvinated frieze and a modillion cornice, along with 18-pane sash windows with thick glazing bars in architraves. The cornice and parapet on this side are similarly moulded and plain.
The hipped roof is topped with a corniced ridge stack.
Inside, the entrance hall is highlighted by a screen of two Corinthian columns and a simple early 19th-century staircase with a coved plaster ceiling. The first-floor landing features a screen of Corinthian columns on the left and a Venetian screen on the right. Most of the interior decoration, except for the staircase, is a mid-20th-century replica of the original. An early 18th-century staircase remains in the east wing, showcasing one twisted and one columnar baluster per tread. There is a single-storey garage at the rear of the entrance front, which is not of special interest, as well as a further mid-19th-century single-storey addition to the left of the entrance front that forms part of the stable block.
