Description
The structure consists of a bridge, terrace wall, and gateway located to the south and southeast of Eslington Park, built between 1850 and 1872 for Lord Ravensworth. The materials used include ashlar, rock-faced stone, and cast iron.
The bridge, constructed in 1872, is situated southwest of the house. It features rock-faced stone approach walls that are curved in plan, with square corniced end piers. The north finials are of a combined urn and obelisk shape, possibly reused from the 17th century. The bridge itself is a single-span design supported by two segmental iron arches and has a solid, panelled cast-iron parapet. There are four square stone corniced end piers, each topped with similar finials.
The terrace retaining wall, built in 1850, extends approximately 150 yards in front of the house and includes a large canted projection immediately south of the house's center. This wall stands about 6 feet high and features rusticated corniced piers placed every 20 yards, with a flat coping that has moulded edges.
The gateway, located at the center of the canted projection and dated 1855, is accessed from the south by a ramp that has similar retaining walls. It includes rock-faced rusticated bases supporting tall, panelled, corniced piers topped with large urn finials. The contemporary cast-iron gates have spearhead standards and dog bars.
