Description
The building is a former stable and carriage house located approximately 30 yards north-west of Belsay Castle, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of ashlar and has two storeys with nine windows. The façade features two boarded doors, and all window openings have raised surrounds with keystones. There is a third boarded door with a plain overlight that was added in the 19th century.
On the right side, the carriage house includes three segmental arches with keystones and banded square piers. The roof is steeply pitched and gabled, with an elaborate kneeler on the right gable and a small square ridge stack. The rear wall is made of old brick laid in an irregular English garden wall bond. At the time of the survey, the windows were temporarily bricked up and the roof was covered with tin sheeting, awaiting repair.
