Description
The statue of a greyhound named King Death is located approximately 30 yards southwest of Burradon Hall. It was created in 1872 from sandstone and measures about 2 feet 6 inches high and 3 feet long. The dog is depicted seated on a plain plinth, which bears a worn inscription that used to read: "KING DEATH Winner of the Waterloo Cup, Waterloo Plate etc. Born 18th Feb. 1862. Died 16th Dec. 1872 Fleve et meminisse relictum est." This statue was previously situated in the garden of Waterloo House in Harbottle, a name given by the owner, Dr. Richardson, to honor the dog's achievements. The statue is included for its historical interest.
