Description

Birney Hill House is a house dating to 1837, situated in Ponteland, Northumberland. It was formerly known as Birney Hill Farmhouse and DISSINGTON MARCH Forge Cottage. The house is constructed of ashlar stone with a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and a three-bay front. The central entrance features a flush-panelled door with a five-pane overlight, and twelve-pane sashes are set within alternating block surrounds. Stone eaves run along the top of the building, and the gabled roof has flat coping. A corniced stack with conjoined shafts is at the right end, while a rendered stack is on the left. A catslide roof extends to the rear. The date 1837 is inscribed on the lintel of the central first-floor window.
