Description
The Green, Brown, Bates, and Twizell headstones are a group of four sandstone headstones located approximately 5 yards south of the Church of St. Mary in Stamfordham.

The headstone for George and Mary Green and their family dates from 1796 and features a scrolled pedimented top, which is carved with an angel, foliage, and a memento mori.

The headstone for George Brown, from 1756, also has a scrolled pedimented top, with angels in the corners and an inscription within a cartouche.

Robert Bates' headstone, dating to 1753, includes a scrolled pedimented top adorned with symbols of death and eternity, along with an elaborately-moulded cartouche.

Lastly, the headstone for Thomas Twizell, from 1788, features a scrolled pedimented top decorated with cherubs, festoons, and a memento mori.
