Description
Widdrington House is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with mid-19th century alterations. It is constructed of random rubble and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has a double span and is two storeys high with three bays.
The north range of the house was originally a bastle house and later served as the village school. It features three small sash windows on the ground floor and large 20-pane sashes above. There is a 20th-century door in a single-storey, one-bay addition on the right side. The roof is steeply pitched with gabled ends and banded stacks. An original first-floor door has been blocked on the right return, and the original ground-floor door is now a niche within the house.
The south range also has three bays, a glazed door, and 16-pane sashes. Inside, the walls of the bastle house are approximately four feet thick, and there are massive beams and old roof timbers.
