Description
The Presbyterian Church in Great Bavington, dated 1725 above the south door, is a Grade II listed building. The church was altered and Gothicized in 1869, with a porch added at that time. In 1975, a meeting room and kitchen were added. The structure is built of random rubble with a Welsh slate roof and features a continuous nave and chancel, along with a south porch.
The porch contains a re-set segmental-headed doorway with a chamfered surround. The main body of the church has four bays, each with 2-light round-headed Victorian windows on the south side. The first and fourth bays were originally doors, and there are small blocked windows at each end of the south wall. A 18th-century sundial is located between the second and third bays, and there is a similar, smaller west window that was also formerly a door.
The gabled roof, raised in 1869, includes kneelers and flat coping, and there is a stone chimney on the east gable. The west gable and porch are topped with obelisk finials. The 20th-century meeting room and kitchen are not of special interest.
