Description
Ladywell Farmhouse is a house with a core dating from the 17th century, altered in the 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of random rubble and has a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and two broad bays, featuring an almost central plank door in a plain surround. The ground-floor windows are late 19th century sashes, while the smaller upper windows are Yorkshire sashes. The gabled roof has thin raised coping and reversed crow-step gables, with the upper part of the gable partly rebuilt in brick. The end stacks have also been rebuilt in brick.
Inside, there are two large 18th century fireplaces with flat lintels. The upper rooms were formerly open to the roof, which is said to have curved principals with tie and collar beams. Many stones on the external walls have carved shapes and initials. Notably, the house served as a Presbyterian meeting house in the later 17th century.
