Description
Shildon Cottage and the adjoining walls are a house and former houses dating from the early 19th century, incorporating earlier materials. The structure is built of rubble and has a 20th-century grey tile roof. It is two storeys high with three irregular bays. The front features an off-centre vertical-panelled door with a timber lintel, accompanied by a 4-pane sash window on the right with a stone lintel and a small window above. The left bay contains 16-pane sashes with timber lintels, while the right bay has late 19th-century 4-pane sashes with stone lintels. There are heavy stone end stacks. The front wall of the former house to the left mostly remains at full height, featuring a boarded door and blocked windows. The ruined wall of the former house to the right, possibly a bastle, is now stepped down. At the rear, there is an outshut with additional sash windows, contributing to the picturesque appearance of the property.
