Description
The building known as the Kennels, located approximately 40 yards north of Belsay Castle, dates from the 19th century and is now used as stores. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features roofs made of Lakeland slate, along with iron railings.
The structure consists of two sections. The left section is an early 19th-century single-storey building with five bays, which includes three boarded doors and two 16-pane fixed windows. It has a monopitch stone slate roof with a square ridge stack. In front, there are exercise yards enclosed by low walling and hooped railings.
The right section is a smaller kennel from the later 19th century, featuring a boarded door and a small 2-pane window to the right. This part has a cross-gabled roof with elaborately-shaped bargeboards and a small square chimney at the rear. It also has a similar yard in front.
