Description
The Old Vicarage, located on The Avenue in Seaton Delaval, is a vicarage built in the early 18th century, with later extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The original 18th-century sections are constructed from rubble with large, roughly-shaped quoins and dressings, while the 19th-century parts are made of snecked rubble with tooled quoins and dressings, except for a brick outshut built in English Garden Wall Bond. The roof features blue slates on the central three bays and purple slates on the ends, with brick stacks.
The south elevation is two storeys high and consists of seven bays, with the three central bays being part of the original house. It features French windows with a six-pane overlight in the second bay, and a six-panel door with an eight-pane overlight to the left of the sixth bay. The windows are 12-pane sashes, which have been renewed on the first floor of the extensions. The gables are coped, and there are end and ridge stacks. The rear elevation includes a two-storey outshut with 12- and 16-pane sash windows, complete with stone sills and floor bands.
At each end of the south elevation, there are attached screen walls that have downswept flat coping. The wall on the left includes a doorway and a 12-pane sash window. A small porch at the rear connects to the south wall of the Walled Garden.
