Description

The Rutherford and Brown headstones are located approximately 5 yards south of the Church of St. Mary in Stamfordham. These two headstones are made of sandstone.

The first headstone commemorates John Rutherford and dates from 1761. It features a scrolled pedimented top adorned with an angel and has good lettering.

The second headstone is for Henry Brown, dating from 1766. It also has a scrolled pedimented top, which includes a skull, a reclining angel, symbols of eternity, and Baroque scrolls.
