Description
The garden walls and attached structures located north-east of Angerton Hall date from around 1840, with alterations and a pergola added in 1904 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The walls are constructed of brick on the inside and roughly-squared stone on the outside, featuring tooled and margined dressings, and topped with slate roofs. Wrought-iron gates provide access. The garden is rectangular with rounded northern corners. The lower south wall is flanked by tall battered piers that have moulded caps and ball finials. There are gateways with square piers and ball finials located at the center and towards the ends of the wall. A 13-bay pergola, supported by round and square piers, is built onto the wall to the left of the central gate. Towards the north end of each side wall, there are round-headed chamfered arches set in corniced projections, along with decorative openwork wrought-iron gates. Attached to the north wall are ancillary outbuildings, which include a pent gardener's cottage and gabled store buildings at each end. There are also blocked flues in the former heated section.
