Description
Hartburn Bridge, which crosses The Hart Burn, is a bridge from the 18th century that was widened in 1850. The 18th-century section is made of squared stone, while the 19th-century part features rock-faced stone with tooled and margined dressings. On the upstream (north) side, there is a semicircular arch with recessed voussoirs and a band above it, and the abutments are canted forward with later buttressing. The downstream side also has a semicircular arch, this one with rusticated voussoirs, flanked by pilasters and a band below the parapet. The pilasters extend upward as piers with pyramidal caps, and similar piers terminate the parapet on both sides. The soffit of the arch displays channelled rustication in the 19th-century section.
