Description
The Hodgson Memorial, located 3 meters east of the Church of St. Andrew in Hartburn, is a recumbent graveslab dating from 1854. It features a relief cross fleury designed in a mid-13th century style, surrounded by a double-chamfered border. The slab bears a Latin inscription dedicated to Rev. John Hodgson and his wife Jane. Rev. Hodgson was known for authoring 'A History of Northumberland' between 1820 and 1858 and collaborated with Sir Humphrey Davy on the development of the Safety Lamp. The memorial is listed for its historic interest.
