Description
West Shield Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century, which was refenestrated in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed roughly-tooled stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three slightly irregular bays. The entrance is an off-centre six-panel door set within a surround of large untooled blocks. The late 19th-century sash windows are found in the left bay, which also has 19th-century lintels, and all windows have slightly projecting tooled and margined sills from the same period. To the right, there is a single-storey extension that includes a boarded door in a tooled and margined surround. The gables are topped with raised copings and have rebuilt brick end stacks resting on older brick bases. The left and right returns display reverse stepped gables. There is a 19th-century rear wing that has been altered, but it is not of particular interest.
