Description
This is a terrace of three cottages located on the south side of Whalton village. Numbers 2 and 3 likely date from the late 18th century and were remodelled in the 19th century, while number 1 is an early 19th-century addition. Number 1 is constructed of roughly-squared stone, while numbers 2 and 3 are built of rubble stone with dressed margins. They have roofs covered in Scottish slate. Each cottage is a single storey and two bays wide. Number 1 has a boarded door positioned slightly to the right of centre, while numbers 2 and 3 have central boarded doors, each with a four-pane overlight. All the windows are renewed 12-pane sashes. The windows in numbers 2 and 3 are set within surrounds made of alternating blocks. Numbers 1 and 2 each have a coped gable on the left side, and each cottage has a chimney stack on its left end; the stack to number 1 is rendered, while those to numbers 2 and 3 are stepped and banded. Rear extensions, added in the 20th century, are not considered to be of particular architectural interest.
