Description

This is a late 18th-century house, now divided into two dwellings, located on the north side of Hartlepool Town Wall on the Headland. The external walls are painted render with chamfered angle quoins. The roof is covered with mid-20th century concrete tiles and has two end stacks at the rear and left, along with a brick stack on the right side. The house has three storeys and a basement, and features three windows on both the ground and second floors, and two windows on the first floor. A string course runs between the ground floor and basement. A flight of five stone steps leads to a central, renewed six-panelled door with an overlight containing glazing bars, set within a Gibbs surround. The surround is topped by a triple keystone superimposed on a pulvinated frieze and a pediment. A renewed tripartite sash window with glazing bars is located in the basement of the left bay. The upper floors contain renewed tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, and renewed sashes with glazing bars on the second floor. The windows have painted stone sills and wedge lintels with triple keystones. A shallow parapet with moulded copings tops the building. The right return side has a renewed stair sash window with glazing bars between two altered doorways, along with renewed paired sash windows with glazing bars in the upper floors. Renewed wrought iron area railings with ornamental spear-shaped and vase-shaped finials are also present.
