Description
Seaton High Light is a river navigation light tower built in 1838 for the Tees Navigation Company. Originally located at the Vulcan Materials UK Ltd site in Longhill, it was later moved to its current position at the east end of Jackson's Landing. The tower is constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar and is internally lined with brick. It features a Tuscan column on a stepped pedestal, which has banded rustication and a cyma-recta-moulded plinth. There are slit-lights within the masonry coursing of the column. The east face of the pedestal has a doorway with an architrave, a keystone dated 1838, and a ledged and battened door. Inside, there is a newel stair, and the tower once supported a lantern, which is now missing. At the time of the listing survey around 1985, the structure was disused and in a dilapidated state, but it has since been restored.
