Description

These are two late 18th-century buildings on Skinnergate, comprising three storeys and four windows. The buildings were constructed in two phases, with an archway leading to Clark's yard running centrally between them. The roof has been replaced with modern ridged tiles. Number 78 is constructed of pinkish brick in a stretcher bond, with three courses of stretchers between each header course. Number 79 is built with a bond of headers and half-headers. The first-floor windows have Gauged brick flat arches with key blocks, except for a later 19th-century canted bay window on the right-hand side. Sash windows are set within wood architraves. A central elliptical archway is present, flanked by modern shop fronts. The rear elevation features a small round window with radial glazing above the archway and gable-ended wings set back on either side. Number 78 has some cambered gauged brick window arches with keystones.
