Description

The South African War Memorial, located within St Cuthbert's Churchyard, was erected in 1905 and unveiled by Lord Roberts. It features a life-size bronze figure of a rifleman climbing a hill, which is set on a rough plinth made of Shap granite. The memorial rests on two steps of paler granite. The piece is unsigned.
