Description

The Carter headstone, located 30 metres southwest of the Church of St. Michael, is a large sandstone headstone dating from 1807, dedicated to Alice Carter. The top features three semicircular projections and a raised egg-and-dart border. The sunk top panel displays reliefs of an urn flanked by winged angel heads. The inscription commemorates Alice Carter of Broom Dikes, who died on May 29, 1807, at the age of 51, expressing hope for a better change to live with Christ and be at rest. It also honors Richard Carter, who died on April 9, 1829, at the age of 90 years.
