Description
No. 18 Hallgarth Street is a late 18th-century building that was originally two houses but is now one. It likely incorporates some earlier materials. The exterior features painted brick and incised stucco, with a painted rendered plinth and painted ashlar dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and concrete tiles. The building has two storeys, with bays and a one-bay section on the corner with Mavin Street.
The entrance consists of a four-panelled door on the right, which is set beneath an overlight with semi-circular glazing, all framed by a narrow pilastered doorcase. The windows are renewed sashes with glazing bars, featuring 16 panes on the ground floor. The brick section has soldier-course lintels and a two-brick-wide floor band, while the windows in the stuccoed part have projecting stone sills. The roof is hipped on the left side.
