Description

Durham Prison Workshops are medieval farm buildings that have been altered in the 20th century. They are constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and feature a roof made of concrete tiles. The building is one storey high with an attic and likely consists of eight bays. There is an inserted double door with an architrave in the third bay, sash windows with bars in the left section, a blocked opening to the right of this part, and a pent extension in front of the right half.

Inside, the building has a steeply-pitched roof supported by arched beams and two levels of purlins, with the upper purlins clasped and the principal rafters reduced or truncated at the collar.
