Description
Hallgarth House is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the mid-18th century, with a 19th-century wing added later. The building is constructed from Flemish garden wall brick in various bonds, featuring a plinth and painted ashlar dressings and quoins. It has a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings and ridge, and banded brick chimneys topped with four tall yellow pots.
The house has two storeys and consists of five bays, with a right extension of five bays and a further extension of four bays. The original building's plinth is partly covered due to the raising of the pavement level, and quoins are present on each section. The left side of the original building features a central six-panelled door with an overlight, set in a panelled reveal of a Tuscan doorcase topped with a high entablature. In the fifth bay, there is an inserted four-panel door with a four-pane overlight. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are adorned with sill and lintel bands and moulded stone sills, some of which have been renewed. The roof has moulded kneelers.
To the right, one bay is set back slightly and has a slightly lower hipped roof. The four-bay section that is set further back includes an eight-panelled door in the first bay, which is situated under voussoirs with a keystone. The steeply-pitched roof, hipped over the one-bay section to the right of the main house, also features moulded kneelers. At the rear, there is a wooden porch supported by Tuscan columns, with a half-glazed door and sidelights beneath a panelled frieze.
