Description

Doe Park Cross Base, located 170 metres east of Doe Park, is a cross base that likely dates back to the medieval period. It is made of sandstone and features a worn, rectangular block with a chamfered top edge. There is an Ordnance Survey bench mark to the east and a central rectangular socket hole. This cross base is said to have been used in the traditional rural ceremony of calf-christening.
