Linked Farmbuildings at Hurworth Bryan Farm

The linked farm buildings at Hurworth Bryan Farm date from the 18th and early 19th centuries and consist of a combined threshing barn and granary, a byre, a horsegin, and a range of loose boxes. They are constructed from limestone and sandstone rubble with some brick infill, topped with pantiled roofs. The buildings form an L-shape around a small yard, with the threshing barn and granary positioned to the north, the horsegin to the west, the loose boxes to the south-west, and the byre to the south-east.

The two-storey, four-bay threshing barn features several altered openings and some blocked first-floor breathers. Its roof has coped gables and is hipped at the angle, with the central section of the ridge heightened in the mid-20th century. The horsegin has a semi-hexagonal west end, with later rubble infill walls that include inserted windows between piers. A modified king-post truss supports its semi-pyramidal roof.

The single-storey, four-bay range of loose boxes includes a central circular pier that divides a double bay, which has two 20th-century boarded doors. The end bays feature single doorways, with the north bay containing the remains of a fireplace. Its roof is hipped to the south.

The two-storey, four-bay byre is linked to the threshing barn by a short section of wall and has a canted plan. It features a vehicle entrance in the south gable end and has altered openings. Four raised cruck trusses support its steeply-pitched roof with raised verges. A lean-to meal house is attached to the east wall, and a short section of wall attached to the south-west partly encloses the yard.

There is a detached byre located 10 meters to the east, which is not of special interest. At the time of the survey, the farm buildings were derelict.
