Description
The Wilson and Stockburn headstones, located 10 metres south of the Church of St. Brandon, are two notable memorials. The first headstone, dedicated to John Wilson, dates from 1782 and is made of sandstone. It stands 1.5 metres high and features a shaped top with a moulded border. The raised cartouche is flanked by scrolled foliage. The inscription reads: "Here lies the body of John Son of Robert and Rachel Wilson Who departed this Life June 13th 1782 Aged 15 Years. No Crime did ever my Consience sing But Death came with its sharpest Wing And quickly sent me to my Grave I hope that God my Soul will Save. I know this Child his God did fear And always lov'd his Parents dear." The second headstone, commemorating Hannah Stockburn, dates from 1777 and is also made of sandstone. It is 0.75 metre high and features a shaped top with an inscription.
