Description
The Brancepeth War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Brandon, which is a Grade I-listed building, and is within the Grade II-registered park of Brancepeth Castle. Constructed from Heworth stone and standing approximately 6 meters tall, the memorial features a cross fleury with a moulded foot that rises from a tapering, octagonal shaft. At the arms of the cross, there is a shield carved with the monogram IHS. The cross shaft is set on a small pedestal with broach stops at the corners and a stepped, tapering foot, which in turn rests on a three-stepped, square base.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the pedestal reads "THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918 / OUR GLORIOUS DEAD / 1939 – 1945." The names of those commemorated are incised on the other three faces of the pedestal.
