Description

Brancepeth Bridge is a road bridge over Stockley Burn, rebuilt in the early to mid-19th century from an earlier structure. It features a sandstone ashlar arch and parapets, with rock-faced abutments and rubble end walls, all designed in a Gothic style. The bridge has a high pointed arch with a drip-mould, flanked by wide battered abutments. There is a dentilled band at road level above the arch. The embattled parapets are located between slightly higher end sections that project forward over the abutments. The battered end walls are accented with quoins and have rendered coping. This bridge spans the parishes of Brancepeth and Crook-and-Willington.
