Description

Six pillars, likely from the 17th century, are located 3 metres east of the west wall of Auckland Castle. These six tall round piers are made of coursed squared stone dressed to a correct circle, with ashlar dressings. They are spaced approximately 1.5 metres apart in a line that runs parallel to the west wall of the Castle Yard. Each pier features chamfered bases and high plinths, as well as chamfered round abaci. The roof has been removed. These pillars are thought to have been part of a hay shed.
