Description
Ivy Cottage and the adjoining barn are a house and barn dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some alterations. They are built from roughly-coursed sandstone rubble of uneven size and have a stone-flagged roof. The building is two storeys high, with the house on the right featuring two wide bays and a one-bay barn to the left. There is a boarded door with an overlight under a flush lintel. The house has early 19th century sash windows, although the bars have been lost. The left bay of the house is now part of the barn, which has an inserted Dutch door on the left and a loading door above. The building has end chimneys, with the left one truncated and the right one rebuilt in brick. The rear elevation displays a door lintel inscribed with "OCY2 1687 I I B," along with carvings of pincers, hammers, and shears. This inscription is believed to refer to an early Presbyterian Meeting that was held in this house. At the time of the survey, the property was empty and in a derelict condition.
