Description

Amrita Cottage is a house, likely originally built as a defensible structure, dating from the 16th century and possibly incorporating earlier materials. The building is constructed of rubble with an irregular plinth and features some large quoins and ashlar dressings. The roof is covered with 20th-century tiles and has brick chimneys. The cottage has two low storeys and four bays. There are two steps leading up to a boarded door located under a flat stone lintel in the third bay. The windows are 20th-century sashes with glazing bars, set under flat stone lintels, some of which have been renewed, and feature thin projecting stone sills. There is a blocked door on the left side and a blocked narrow window in the center of the first floor. The rear elevation includes a blocked Tudor-arched doorway with large irregular jambs that support a lintel with an eroded inscription. Additionally, there is a one-storey, two-bay pent outshut that has large quoin stones.

Inside, the north part of the left side features a round-headed arch in the south wall, which is chamfered on the southern face. The ceiling was originally very low, but the floor has since been lowered, and a central stair has been inserted.
