Description

The former cart horse stables attached to Byre House date from the late 18th century. They are constructed of colourwashed rubble with ashlar dressings, and the roofs are covered with Welsh slate and dark grey asbestos tiles, featuring stone and red tile ridges. The building is arranged in an L-plan, consisting of a two-storey, six-bay range that faces north, with a one-storey, six-bay east range attached.

The north elevation of the main block has three boarded doors; the first two doors feature vent slits and band hinges, and are set under flat stone lintels, while the third door is located under a segmental arch. There are projecting stone sills beneath the four-pane lights to the right of each door, as well as beneath six square first-floor boarded pitching holes. The building has a hipped roof. The right return includes wide side steps leading to a boarded loft door. The east range features four boarded Dutch doors, three partly-glazed hit-and-miss openings, and a four-pane light.
