Description
St Mary's Convent is a house that has been converted into a convent and old people's home, dating from the early to mid-18th century. The front and right side are finished with pebble-dash rendering, while the rear is made of coursed squared sandstone, featuring ashlar dressings and quoins. The building has a Welsh slate roof, complemented by an ashlar and yellow brick chimney, and stone gable coping. It is two storeys high with five bays. The entrance features a renewed door within a 20th-century porch, and there are sash windows with glazing bars set in architraves. The right gable has coping supported by moulded kneelers, and there is a ridge chimney. Inside, most rooms have window shutters, and there are some two-panelled cupboard doors. The dogleg staircase has a ramped grip handrail supported by column-and-vase balusters. There are 19th and 20th-century extensions to the left and rear, which are not of particular interest.
